Abstract
two civilizations of Marlik and Jiroft have been very fruitful and rich in terms of concept, image Animal motifs are one of the main motifs used in ancient Iranian art. These motifs in the and structure, which have been considered by the artists of this land. Since one of the basic concepts in semiotics is the dual confrontation that is rooted in the mythological, cultural and geographical beliefs of human beings. This study tries to answer the question of what are the dual contrasts in eight of the animal motifs in Marlik and Jiroft from a semiotic point of view with a structuralist approach? The purpose of this study is to study the dual opposition as one of the main components of structuralism, sign system and motifs based on positive and negative poles. Therefore, in this article, a descriptive-analytical method has been used to examine eight cases of animal motifs in these two civilizations. It finds meaning and becomes a sign language.
In this study, four types of interactions were selected for identification and study: 1- Personality confrontation 2- Spatial confrontation 3- Temporal confrontation 4- Signal confrontation
After analyzing the works, it became clear that the ancient Iranian artist considered the design of these four types of contrasts in close connection with each other and considered them inseparable from each other. The artist's goal was to address fertility and drought concerns in the Marlik and Jiroft areas, which are displayed in the form of animals facing each other and against natural elements.
