During the Timurid era, Yazd Province witnessed the emergence of unique examples of tile mihrab niches. These architectural elements, due to their distinct structural and decorative characteristics, are a key component in identifying and differentiating the tilework style of the Yazd region from other areas under Timurid rule in Iran, collectively creating a distinct regional style. Given the relatively limited recognition of mihrab niches as a prominent decoration of this period, the present study aims to identify, introduce, and classify these elements in Timurid-era buildings in Yazd Province. The main research question is: What are the most common and prominent designs, geometric patterns, and Plant motifs in the tile mihrab niches of Timurid-era buildings in Yazd Province? This research relies on field methods and references to written sources to analyze data collected from thirteen case studies and discusses the results in an interpretive-historical manner. The findings indicate that the use of tile mihrab niches is a tradition specific to the Yazd region, and similar examples are not observed in other areas of Timurid rule in Iran. In general, the application of tile mihrab niches to indicate the qibla direction in historical sites of the Timurid period was a unique and common method in Yazd. Furthermore, considering the shared decorative features among the tile mihrab niches of buildings in Yazd Province, it can be acknowledged that an almost common and unified pattern was used in the application of mihrab niches in this region. Therefore, the existence of the mihrab niches themselves on the one hand, and their shared decorative features on the other, testify to the existence of a distinct artistic tradition and regional style in the Yazd region, the evidence of which is clearly evident in Yazd Province during this period.
