Achaemenid seals are among the most important archaeological evidence of a period in which art and politics served the imperial worldview. In addition to their administrative and commercial functions, these seals have provided a platform for representing political, religious, and ritual concepts. Achaemenid seal motifs, like pictorial texts, have made it possible to reinterpret religious thought and belief, the concept of divine power, and the relationship between man and divinity in this historical period. Also, the symbology study of these motifs can play an effective role in better understanding the connection between religion and politics and how the Achaemenid kings were legitimized. The aim of the research is to read the symbology concepts in the designs of Achaemenid seals with ritual themes and to try to reveal the hidden layers of meaning behind these images. The present study seeks to answer the question: What symbolic concepts do the ritual motifs used in Achaemenid seals reflect? The nature of the present research is developmental and, in terms of method, descriptive-analytical with a semiotic approach. Information was collected using a library-documentary method and based on written sources and documents available in museum archives. After examining the motifs of Achaemenid seals with ritual themes from a symbology perspective, it was concluded that many seals depicted ritual-prayer scenes, the presence of gods, composite beings, celestial bodies, and plant motifs, which, while rooted in Iranian beliefs, were influenced by the artistic elements of Mesopotamia and other ancient nations. In these motifs, the most frequent concepts are authority, glory, blessing, life, and adherence to beliefs and sacred things. By depicting ritual motifs on seals, Achaemenid artists attempted to record and display ritual ceremonies.
