Abstract
A photo as an art work looks for changing reflection to description; In this regard, the photo aims to enter the labyrinth of meaning by explaining the description according to the overlapping layers of meaning. However, this image form the art of photography sometimes takes an anti-descriptive approach and tries to release meaning images. Among the modern photography artists, Rinko Kawauchi from Japan tries to show everything that happens in the routine life with its “real thing as it is” explanation by a unique elaboration of reality. The works of this artist seek to explain understandable and useful feelings and in fact the subject appears in form of a unique demonstration in a way that “it is just what it is” in reality. The following research examines the elements like concentrated feeling, honest demonstration of an outstanding moment and finally satori (wu) silence in the works of Kawauchi to find how they stay away from the quagmire of meaning. Moreover, these works show how they cause vigilance against reality. Since intuition has always worked to reach truth, studying vigilance in confronting with reality leading to self-discovery becomes very important. This study is quantitative and based on library documents and is placed in a form of descriptive-analytic. Based on the results of this study, Kawauchi was not looking for a pre-defined meaning behind his photography subjects and mere simplicity of his works acknowledges its profound depth. The works of this artist were not aiming at showing allegory, signs, and implicit concepts and in fact with a clear approach of daily encounters, he has chosen the subjects or a way of photography life that could be interesting for himself. Therefore, the works of Kawauchi puts the human self against themselves to teach a profound lesson.
